Eric Karkovack over at The WP Minute has published a post saying something that has needed to be said for a long time.
WordPressers are passionate about their workflows. Some might declare their way as the only way.
Some approaches are indeed better than others. They may be more sustainable, compatible, and secure. However, the discourse we see isn’t always about these factors.
Those of us who build websites are left to navigate this virtual minefield. Are we doing it wrong? Or are we being bombarded with propaganda?
As you navigate your WordPress journey, you’ll build your own tool belt. This consists of themes, plugins, and services that become your go-to for solving problems. One of the great things about WordPress is that there are generally a handful of ways to approach a solution. Some are better than others. Some are definitely the Doing_It_Wrong variety, but it’s up to you to find out and use the approach that’s best for the problem at hand.
There are people in the WordPress ecosystem who will continuously try to convince you that their methods, ways of thinking, and their tool belt is the only one that works. Your gut reaction may be to ignore these people, but even in these situations, there are nuggets of wisdom to be had. Learning to read between the lines is a valuable skill.
It’s also not worth the mental and physical energy to debate their methodologies. They’re minds are made up and you’re not going to convince them otherwise.
Ultimately, my advice is to use whatever page builder you enjoy most. Use the plugins and themes that get the job done. Learn from the paths of experience that have been created by others but don’t be afraid to carve your own.
Years pass, and I see that my work is more resilient that way.
It’s satisfying to answer this question: What did you use to build this site? Just WordPress, my friend.
