I’m excited to announce a new way to financially support the work I do for WP Mainline in a way that matches the style and theme of the site. Instead of the typical small rectangles and square images that make up display advertising, I wanted something fresh and unique.
I got in touch with Joshua Dailey and asked him if it would be possible to create a boxcar banner design where companies can have their logo featured and the colors match their branding. Boxcars are one of my favorite types of rail cars and since they’re branded and sometimes covered in graffiti, they make the perfect advertising opportunity. After a few nights, this is what Josh came up with.
First of all, I love all of the small details that Josh added. From the rivets to the ladder and the springs, he did an amazing job. Be sure to click the image to view a larger version of it. These boxcar designs will display on the front page of WP Mainline randomly for 60 days and will link to a site of the buyer’s choosing. The buyer also has the option to keep the design and use it for other purposes. Note that buyers are required to have a Vector version of their logo in order to make the process of adding it to the boxcar easier.
The turnaround time for a custom-designed boxcar is about a week or so. I realize that many people, including myself, use adblockers but WP Mainline does not have intrusive advertising and these are ads you’ll want to see! I know I do. If you’re interested in being one of the first businesses to lend your support and receive a cool boxcar design in the process, you can buy one here.
Also, if you’re interested in stats, here is some information on the last 30 days.
Love it.
I know it probably won’t happen but I’d love to see and animated train pulling them across the screen
Well, you’re not alone in thinking about moving train cars across the screen. I thought about this as well today but cringed at the thought of an animation. However, I believe a similar effect could be had using a slideshow or a slider where each train car moves from right to left. If I did that, then I could charge higher prices for being at the front of the train lol. It would also open up the possibility of creating the lost but not forgotten caboose.
Oh yes, perfect fit for slides and video content
Yeah the thought of effectively a marquee is a bit cringey, but I think it would be fine as it makes sense contextually, it’s just whether it would be practical (like too much time without any sponsors visible)
